Far away, the city
2019
Far Away, The City (La ciudad a lo lejos) is an artist’s book by Alberto Pina and Andrés Barba, fourth portfolio in collaboration of Cañón de Garibaldi ediciones. In it is exposed, through the formula of the horizontal landscape of Japanese type, a tragedy that happened in a distant city, from which a tiny column of smoke barely arrives as a reference. The contradiction between the stillness of the landscape and the suffering that can be guessed in the distance is also the motif of the text, a psalmodic poem about everything that has been lost in the tragedy.
” Far away the city, far away
far away the apples, the fish far away the fish in the distance
far away the parks, the docile animals, far away the cobblestones, the walls that give way in dreams
far away the garden with its devoured earth, far away the house of rhubarb and the house of hydrangeas, far away the
hydrangeas, far away the corner where the soldiers pushed
far away the horizontal science of the city, far away the working days, far away the pale red of the gates, the bending of the branches
far away the whispers, the stops, far away being born in August or in June, far away the orbit of the road,
far away the air in the lungs, the shame, far away the unconfessable joy.”
